Yamaha Builds A Robot That Drives Motorcycles and Challenges World Champion Rossi

Short Bytes: Yamaha pulled a big one in the Tokyo Motor Show as it showcased its superbike riding Robot rather than any showing any ceremonious unconventional motorbike. Named Motobot, this humanoid is improving every day to give the champion racers a run for their money


While others were busy showing what their automobile has got, Yamaha displayed a marvel of engineering and AI at the Tokyo Motor Show. It wasn’t just any superbike or a green fuel motorcycle, but a humanoid that could effectively control and zoom on Yamaha’s 1000cc R1M.

As humans were already pissed off of the fact that machines would take their jobs becoming a doctor, lawyer and architect, Motobot and the flavour of the season, self-driving cars, have taken the drivers’ seat as well.

Motobot is the product of an intense R&D effort in robotics technology and Yamaha’s aim to create a robot that could cruise any unmodified bike. And if you are a rider yourself, you would understand that this task is no easy.

Yamaha released a video showing Motobot riding its superbike with ease and in its childish voice even called out the MotoGP world champion, Valentino Rossi as he said, “I am improving my skills every day. I was created to surpass you.” But, unlike other superstars, Motobot is quite humble and realises that he needs to learn from the master to catch up to him.

The superbike riding robot has caught every speed lover’s attention for the ultimate battle between the man and the machine on a superbike. However, the makers are still working to improve Motobot skills until it touches 200 kph on a racetrack.

Yamaha wants to use its state-of-the-art technology to ‘pioneer new lines of business’ which has left many wondering what could it be! Could we be witnessing a humanoid MotoGP now?

1.Audi S8

There are sports executive saloons and then there is Maserati. Obsessed with aesthetics in a way only the Italians can be, Maseratis have the ability to up your swag quotient by a factor of 3000 in a matter of seconds. Incidentally, reaching triple digit speeds also takes the same amount of time, especially when you’re dealing with the top of the line Quattroporte GTS. With 523 bhp, its 3.8 litre, twin-turbo V8  packs similar levels of power as the rest of the frat pack of hyper saloons, but nothing comes within a mile of the Quattroporte’s league as far as sheer sensation and style is concerned.

4. Aston Martin Rapide

In an alternate universe where 007 has succumbed to a more domestic life, he probably drives the Aston Martin Rapide. Aston Martin doesn’t have room for executive sedans in its portfolio, so it just decided to give the grand touring DB9 an extra set of doors. More supercar than saloon, its most powerful variant, the Rapide S, even has bucket seats at the back.

Powering it is a good, old fashioned V12 which produces a dizzying 550 bhp of power. Think of it as a supercar with the ability to accomodate a lot more supermodels.

5. Jaguar XJ R

Designed by the assured hand of Ian Callum, the Jaguar XJ is the weapon of choice for the political who’s who of the UK, and a symbol of modern Britain’s revitalised automotive prowess. It’s got one of the best interiors in the business, and one of the most intoxicating powerplants, the best of which is a supercharged, 5- litre V8 that contributes heavily to the XJ’s value as a symbol of power and prestige.

Jaguar’s flagship car can hit 100 kph in under 5 seconds, which is outstanding, since this is a car of Goliathan proportions. Perhaps Jaguar hopes that British bureaucrats will ease off on the speed limits, if they spend a little more time at race tracks.

6. Bentley Mulsanne Speed

As a jewel in Britain’s automotive crown, Bentley hasn’t shone quite as brightly as the BMW-owned Rolls-Royce. It was one of the finest luxury car makers in the world, but Bentley has also had a prolific racing history. And it shows in the Mulsanne Speed – the first ground up new design from Bentley since 1931.

At 3 tonnes, the Mulsanne Speed weighs twice as much as an average supercar, so it goes without saying that the engine subscribes to old-fashioned ideas of ‘big’. Yes, the Mulsanne is powered by a 6.75- litre V8, which puts out an earth tearing 110 kgm of torque. Although old money isn’t given to vulgar pursuits like speed, they’d make an exception with the Mulsanne Speed. 'Fallout 4' breaks 'Grand Theft Auto V's Steam concurrent players record

Bethesda's biggest release of the year 2015 'Fallout 4' has opened to a record number of users on Steam. The game has in fact beaten the record set by Rockster Games title 'Grand Theft Auto V' on the gaming platform.

'Fallout 4' has set a record of 469,073 users simultaneouly playing the game on Steam. The high was achieved in just one day after the release of the game on November 10. The previous record of the highest number of users -- 360,000 -- was held by set by GTA V, which had achieved this number in three days after release.

In its time, GTV V had broken the record set by Bethesda's 'Skyrim' of 280,000 users.

Though games like Counter Strike Global Offensive and Dota 2 often top the charts on Steam, recording numbers with an average of 500,000 players and boasting records of 820,000 and 1.26 million concurrent players respectively, these don't contend because these are essentially multi-player games.
